A honeymoon set in the mountains is the perfect way to spend time together, especially when you are at The Cavern Drakensberg Resort & Spa in the Northern Drakensberg of KwaZulu-Natal.

The gentle arms of nature immediately cradle you as you arrive at The Cavern. It is all around you: hillsides of waving grass hiding families of resting Mountain Reedbuck, steep rocky ravines with tumbling waterfalls and secret places within the forested kloofs. The Cavern is set in a pristine valley of the Northern Drakensberg, just three hours from Durban and three and a half hours from Gauteng. The hotel itself is nestled happily at the head of the valley, hidden from the main berg, but offers grand views of faraway sandstone outcrops and spectacular sunrises.

This stunning resort has won numerous accolades over the years. Honeymoon suites, Superior suites and standard accommodation are available with spectacular views of the surrounding valleys, indigenous forests and mountains. Honeymoon suites are complete with four-poster beds and fireplaces for cool evenings. The Superior accommodation is set away from the resort, in tranquil gardens, with magnificent views of the surrounding mountains.

The Forest Spa, set high up in the indigenous forest, is a relaxing space in which to unwind whilst being treated by our therapists. Afterwards, the unique Cave Bar is the ideal place to meet for sundowners, while looking over the vibrant valley below.

Fitness fanatics will rejoice in the huge variety of exercise and activities to do at The Cavern. From guided walks, horse rides and trout fishing, all of which are available on the reserve, to mountain bike trails at the nearby adventure centre, there’s plenty of ways to stay active.

The Cavern is home to numerous bushman paintings, over 200 species of birds, 150 species of trees and a variety of wildlife, including Leopard and Eland. The resort offers daily guided hikes to see bushman paintings and rock carvings. For the more energetic, walks are organised to the Tugela Gorge and to the top of the Amphitheatre.

All meals are included and the food is delicious, wholesome and plentiful. Tea is served in the mornings and afternoons, and sundowners can be enjoyed on the decks while admiring the picturesque natural scenery.

All honeymooners checking into The Cavern Drakensberg Resort & Spa receive a complimentary spa treatment during their stay, which also includes canapés and bubbles!
