Who doesn’t love a good shopping spree during the holidays? Whether you’re looking for gifts, clothes, summer essentials, food or items to improve your home, Umhlanga has got you covered as we look at the malls and centres in the area and what makes their shopping experience unique.

Gateway Theatre of Shopping

Meet a shopaholic’s paradise! Gateway has always been a popular choice for locals and visitors alike as it’s a one-stop shopping mall for all things fashion, food and entertainment. Feel like a shopping spree this holiday? Gateway has over 430 stores ranging from South African retailers like Keedo and Beach and Beyond to much-loved international brands like Zara, H&M, Cotton On and Superdry. No need to leave when you’re feeling peckish as they have a variety of restaurants to satisfy any craving, such as Circus Circus, Cape Town Fish Market, Château Gâteaux and Mugg & Bean. They also have an amazing food court where you can choose from a plethora of food stalls. If that isn’t enough, Gateway is a great place for fun activities and entertainment, with Ster Kinekor, be.UP Park, bowling, an arcade and Snow Wonderland (the first permanent snow park in SA!).

What makes Gateway a truly unique experience is their ability to have something for everyone (you’re bound to find exactly what you want and need within their stores) and a visit to Gateway always becomes a full-day experience: you can get your shopping done, the kids can enjoy hours of exciting activities, and you can end it off with a delicious meal!

You can also indulge in incredible meals and beverages at favourite spots like Mozambik, Café La Plage and the much-loved African Roots Coffee.

Alongside great restaurants, The Pearls also has a wide variety of stores for Christmas and general shopping in a contemporary, modern setting! The Crescent

Although this well-known shopping centre was developed 18 years ago, The Crescent is still a popular choice for Umhlanga residents’ shopping needs. This is probably because it takes advantage of what many love about the East Coast: the amazing weather! The centre’s unique circular design allows for the outdoors to become part of your shopping experience – you’re surrounded by fresh air and space to freely browse. This also makes The Crescent convenient as you can easily park close to the store you wish to pop into and grab your essentials. However, The Crescent is still a great spot for rainy-day shopping as their ground-floor stores are protected and there are around 400 undercover parkings.

The Crescent offers everything you could need, such as grocery stores, fashion, arts and crafts shops, home décor and furniture, a pet shop and places to grab a quick bite to eat like Mugg & Bean OTM, Wimpy, KFC and Nando’s. The centre’s anchors include the firm favourites: Pick ‘N Pay, Food Lovers Market, Clicks, Builder’s Express and Baby City. With 50 other stores, and a prime location in Umhlanga Ridge, The Crescent is the place for an easy and stress-free shopping experience, and plus, parking is free!

Park Square

Stylish, vibrant and convenient are three words that describe Park Square, an architecturally stunning retail and business location that is an extension of Chris Saunders Park. Once you step into this centre, you know you’re going to have a pleasant experience, with their range of unique stores, wide walkways and secure undercover parking. At Park Square you can do your weekly shopping at SPAR, Tops SPAR and Pharmacy at SPAR, get your laundry done at Eazi Laundromat, or have a pick-me-up at Hello Hunny Hair & Beauty Studio or Armitage Outfitters. You can also grab a quick coffee or get some work done at Seattle Coffee.

What we really love about Park Square is that it mimics what the Umhlanga locals are all about: balancing work and play! In addition to their great retail stores, Park Square also offers office space in their four-star, green-star rated building. Alongside this, they have a variety of incredible restaurants, such as Mike’s Kitchen, Victory Lounge and Cappello, which become perfect places for work meetings or dinners and drinks with friends and family after work. Park Square allows for a smooth transition between work and play, on top of being a peaceful place to shop! What more could you want?
