KZN matriculants with a passion and talent for the performing arts often have to move across the country to complete further studies in the industry, where they may not even receive the qualifications needed to pursue a global career.
Welcome to the stage the International School of Performing Arts.
Located on Florida Road in the heart of Durban, ISPA is a tertiary musical theatre academy dedicated to comprehensively training young talent in all aspects of performing arts. They aim to empower their students with skills to work locally and internationally, as well as produce, direct and perform their own work.
Students will receive practical training in dance, acting and music from various experts in the industry, ensuring they become ‘triple threats’ ready to take on the global stage. On the theoretical side, their curriculum follows that of Trinity College of London, providing top-class education that is recognised across the world.
The school offers one, two and three-year diplomas. The one-year programme awards a higher certificate, while the two and three-year programmes meet the criteria of a Bachelor of Arts undergraduate degree and a Bachelor of Arts honours degree respectively. No matter how long the diploma, graduates will leave with an internationally accredited qualification and skills to ensure a long, fruitful career.
ISPA will open its doors to their first students in February 2024. If you want to share your talent with the world, head over to their website (www.ispa-durban.com) to apply and find out more about their audition process. More details will also be shared in our February/March edition of The Umhlanga Magazine.
