RVCA brings Californian Style to Umhlanga

This August, the Californian brand, RVCA (rew-ka), expands its presence in Durban with the opening of its latest retail concept store in the heart of Umhlanga, in the Gateway Shopping Centre.

Founded in 1999 by Pat Tenore and Conan Hayes, a professional surfer from Hawaii, RVCA is a collaboration of sorts and a lifestyle within itself. Shoppers can expect to see a diverse range of men’s and women’s apparel, swimwear, activewear, footwear and accessories, as well as artist-inspired collaborations. The new store will have an exciting contemporary design and will be located at Shop 210, on the ground level opposite VANS.

The RVCA logo is based on the two chevrons, the V & the A, representing the brand’s ethos “The Balance of Opposites”. It stands as a symbol of harmony in the fashion world, blending diverse influences, and styles in its clothing range. Transcending the boundaries of traditional action sports apparel, RVCA is a design-driven lifestyle brand free from passing trends. It appears as natural on the shelves of a boutique as it does on those of a local skate shop.

Embracing skate and surf culture, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and MMA, RVCA is a lifestyle brand synonymous with style and substance. The brand merges nature with industrialisation, femininity with masculinity, and traditional with contemporary. This ethos is reflected in every piece of RVCA apparel, resonating with those who seek both style and substance in their wardrobe choices, today, tomorrow, and in the future.

The Artist Network Program (ANP) disrupts norms by supporting artists, offering a platform for creative expression and cultural impact. Balancing opposites and nurturing talent, RVCA stands as more than a fashion brand—it’s a cultural movement. To RVCA, an artist is not someone who just paints a picture, or writes a song, but someone who is dedicated to sharing with the world their life, emotions and soul through innovative and creative ideas. RVCA and the ANP were developed to shake the very foundations of the business, by giving back to the artists and providing a voice for their creative growth. This is an ongoing program which aims to showcase the talent of accomplished as well as unknown artists who inspire our generation and push the boundaries of creativity; providing something of substance and culture.

Operated by New Pier Trading (Pty) Ltd as part of Boardriders, RVCA joins a family of renowned brands like Quiksilver, Billabong, Roxy, DC Shoes, and Element. With over 35 stores nationwide, Boardriders aims to grow its retail presence in the coming years, offering fashion-relevant apparel for a balanced lifestyle.
