Where Nice People Meet

10 Years of SandBar!

You can see the influence of oceanside living in the sea-inspired SandBar Restaurant and Cocktail Bar, evoking the ambience of a coastal holiday. Located in the picturesque town of Umdloti, this popular spot overlooks the ocean and is the place to be all year round thanks to the sunny Durban weather.

SandBar is the perfect restaurant to slow down and relax while enjoying one of their signature cocktails. Stepping onto their ‘Corona Veranda’, you are greeted by the friendly and welcoming crew and owner, Leonard. “We want you to leave feeling relaxed and happy. We look at the experience holistically and we take satisfaction seriously,” says Leonard. Not only do the staff contribute to the lively atmosphere of the restaurant, but they really pay attention to the little details when it comes to each individual’s taste.

When it comes to food, SandBar doesn’t compromise on quality, taste or presentation. They have a vast menu, including tapas, mains and desserts, that will satisfy any foodie. And, you can’t forget about their house speciality ribs! Available in 400 and 600 grams, their pork loin ribs are slow-cooked for two hours before being marinated for 24 hours. They are then basted and flame-grilled to perfection. We had to keep the napkins close by while enjoying those ribs!

SandBar’s sushi selection is expansive including favourites like rainbow rolls, prawn avalanches and salmon roses. Being an office of sushi-lovers, their sushi platters are perfect for sharing, and we got creative and made our own. Then, we got to end things off with a decadent dessert and let the festive atmosphere and lively music sweep us into the evening.

SandBar also hosts local DJs performing there while you sip on a refreshing cocktail and enjoy the ocean views. Be sure to check their social media to find out more about their events or specials.

Celebrating its 10th anniversary, SandBar Restaurant and Cocktail Bar has become a landmark of Umdloti, overcoming various hurdles over the years. It is still the place where both locals and visitors can meet and enjoy brilliant service, refreshing cocktails and great food.
